UFC middleweight champion Drikus du Plessis and Shaun Strickland also competed in the same event. Du Plessis and Strickland headlined UFC 312 in Sydney, Australia, a follow-up to their title fight that crowned du Plessis as champion last year.

- Location: Qudos Bank Arena — Sydney, Australia
- Start time: 10 p.m. ET (Main card)

Du Plessis vs Strickland earned Fight of the Night honors for their UFC 307 main event last January. Strickland immediately demanded a rematch after losing via split decision but his lack of title defense worked against him. Since then, du Plessis has defeated Israel Adesanya and Strickland has defeated Paulo Costa. The rivals renew their rivalry on February 9 (February 8 in North America). UFC CEO Dana White recently claimed that Khamzat Chimaev is in line to fight the winner.
UFC 312 is light on the money, especially compared to UFC 311, but the co-main event is strong. UFC women’s strawweight champion Zhang Weili makes her third defense of her second title against Tatiana Suarez. “The Ultimate Fighter 23” winner Suarez was billed as the future champion, but repeated injuries delayed the inevitable.
